This past week I spent a good chunk away from the business and did my best to unplug.
I took a much-needed vacation with my three girls.
Let’s start with the latter part of the week with an extra special event taking center stage.
Have you seen the movie The 40-Year-Old Virgin?
Well, my 44-year-old virgin brother got married for the first time. He is a good Catholic boy.
:~)
He lives on Amelia Island (near Jacksonville, Florida) and married a helluva woman. The reception was a blast. And I blasted him in my best man’s toast. Paybacks are swell.

Since we were traveling to Florida, I thought for the first part of the week I’d take the girls to Disney World, since I had never been and I knew they’d have a blast, too.

In front of the Disney castle
We had an absolute blast at the crowning achievement of one of my heros. Yes, I’ve always had a strong connection to Walt Disney. I remember every Sunday night watching the Disney TV show and seeing that castle with Tinker Bell and her pixie dust finish every program.
I feel we share many similarities. He was an artist. He was a businessman and an entrepreneur. We both had all girls, and he did many fun things for his little daughters.
And I learned a few things from a 30-minute documentary we
watched one afternoon that made me like Disney even more.
He struggled just like all businesses at one time or another. He was leveraged to the hilt, borrowing money here and there to fund different projects along the way.
When movies and projects churned out a ton of cash, he reinvested a ton. The narrator said the profits from Snow White went into building the huge Disney studios from which movie after movie came out of.
He also dove head first into unique markets, like TV,
with the goal of driving people into his park and to watch his movies.
The man was a genius. And I’ve learned a lot about business from this true grandmaster of the animation industry.
So what can you learn from Disney? How can you leverage his secrets of business success?
Take some time to think about your company…
Are there areas in which you can expand your marketing reach to drive
customers into your main business?
Can you get a radio show?
Or maybe you can start a podcast on topics of interest for you and provide plugs to your business…
What can you do to give back to your community – sponsoring everything through your company?
The possibilities are endless. Have fun brainstorming.
Best,
Vince Palko
