When it comes to TV watching, I don’t represent the norm.
I rarely watch it.
But a trend is happening here… and, as you’ll see in a moment, it will have a huge impact on how you market your business.
If you pay attention to your habits and the typical behavior of your friends, family, and neighbors, you can spot it too.
Let me be so bold and say your TV’s days are numbered.
No, not TV programming per se. Just the way we receive shows and other content.
And there is a little culprit responsible for all this.
It’s something that fits easily in a shoebox. Something you have with you 24/7.
This little device is your smartphone (or a tablet), and it’s quickly taking over eyeballs from the “boob tube” in your living room.
“ZenithOptimedia expects mobile video viewing to grow by 44% in 2015 and 35% in 2016, with video consumption on non-mobile devices increasing nearly 10% in 2015 and 7% in 2016.”
Pretty incredible don’t you think?
But it’s not shocking, right? Simply think about how you consume content. Observe what your kids do.
My kids’ Saturday mornings don’t involve cartoons on TV.
Oh, for sure they’re watching cartoons. But rather than passively wait for whatever comes on… they select the content they want and watch it together in their bedroom on there iPads or iPods.
Maybe your kids are the same.
We are witnessing the death of cable and satellite TV…
Remember the CD? Try to remember the last time you saw one for sale…
I’ll never forget witnessing the passing of DVDs and CDs. I purchased a new MacBook Pro laptop a few years ago, and it shocked me to see there was no slit on the side for a disk.
“Incredible.” I exclaimed to my team. “I just witnessed the death of DVDs.”
Soon after I bought an Apple TV… and have never been back to the family video store since.
So where am I going with this? And how do you fit in?
There is good news in all of this for YOU regarding how consumers receive their content.
Since your mobile devices are eating your TV for lunch and people are spreading more time on their phones… what better way to allow small business owners to reach qualified leads?
And for a modest price I might ad.
You don’t have to spend loads of money on major TV ads to attract a following to your website.
And you don’t have to wait as long to see your ad appear. You don’t have to wait as long to see how successful your ad campaign is or isn’t.
On Facebook, Twitter and Instagram you can get ads unleashed immediately and track their success within a day.
You can gauge and control the how far you push your ads depending on the success or lack there of for each campaign.
Being online and mobile, where your prospects and customers “live” almost 24/7 these days with those smartphones and tablets I was talking about, is the reason for this flexibility.
It’s a whole new world. So let’s line up time to chat more in-depth and see how we can revamp your marketing approach to account for the new normal.
